Congratulations to Kate Bibby (TEC) on her triumphant win in the Emirates Ladies Amateur Open. Played over the Majlis course, Kate shot a very impressive 73 gross to take the trophy by virtue of a 4 shot win, with Natalii Gupta (EGC) scoring 77 to secure second place. With the early section of the field finding tough out there, it was an intense finish with these winners coming from the closing groups. Completing the gross prizes was Chantal El-Chaib (ADGC) who fired a gross 78 to finish in third place.
Ping Emirates Ladies Amateur Open 2018 Winners
Into the net section, where the ladies section of Emirates Golf Club dominated. Claiming the top prize with a fantastic net score of 67 was Sandra Benade (EGF). With second and third place more closely contested it was Lynne Dickinson (EGC) who claimed second with a net 70, by virtue of a better inward half. Lynne just beating Caroline Granger (EGC) who had also scored a net 70.

Saturday the 3rd of March 2018 saw 50 of the region’s most promising talents compete at the Troon managed Meydan Golf for the AGMC Junior Open.
AGMC Junior Open Prize Winners
With an 8 am Tee Time, Asanka White had a nervous start with a Double Bogey on the 2nd Hole and a Bogey on the 3rd Hole to put himself at 3 over Par. However, this did not phase the 24th ranked Junior in the current Emirates Golf Federation Order of Merit.
Having completed his Front 9 in 2 over Par, White proceeded to try and make up the shots he had dropped earlier in the round. Although there was another dropped shot on the 11th, a Birdie, Eagle finish resulted in a fantastic Back 9 of 34, 2 under Par and the Clubhouse lead with 5 groups remaining on the Course.
1 shot proved to be enough for Asanka to claim the AGMC Junior Open Title as three players posted scores of 73, with Natalii Gupta taking the Runner-Up Prize after a countback from Jay Mullane and Toby Bishop.
In the Nett Competition, Kellie Gachaga and Sam Mullane both finished with Nett Scores of 66. A level Par back 9 of 36 by Gachaga was the deciding factor as to who would claim the Winners Prize. Nearest the Pin on the 15th was won by Jay Mullane, following a precise iron shot to a tricky Pin Location. Vijay Haridas completed the group of Prize Winners after hitting a very long Tee Shot on the 18th to win Longest Drive.
Phil Dobson, Golf Operations Manager at Meydan Golf thanked the Event Sponsor AGMC BMW and Prize Sponsor Rivoli for their continued support at the facility and wished all Junior’s the best of luck for the remainder of the Season.

Sara Engsig claimed the 12th RAK Ladies Amateur Open after a final hole sudden death playoff with Natalli Gupta. The EGF Order of Merit qualifier saw a broad spectrum of age and experience as all competitors battled for the same thing, to be crowned RAK Ladies Champion. Both Sara, who won the event back in 2009, and Natalie both carded 3 over totals of 75. After nine holes Natalli found herself 2 shots ahead following a 1 over front nine compared to Sara’s 3 over with all 3 shots being dropped on hole 2 following a 7. Miraculously Sara fired in 9 straight pars on the back nine whilst Natalli dropped 1 each on the difficult 10th and 16th. This tied total meant that both would continue down the 18th until a winner was decided.
RAK LADIES WINNERS
Both Sara and Natalli played there first two shots comfortably down the fairway both leaving themselves fairly straightforward approach shots. Natalli was first to go which saw a slight pull to miss the green pin high. Sara then fired in a spinning shot to about 10 feet. Natalli’s strong chip and missed put for bogey meant that Sara could calmly roll her ball up to the side of the hole for a tap-in par and victory. The last of the gross prizes was collected by Hannah Mannion who fell one shot shy of the play-off with a score of 76.
Kellie Garchaga blew away the field in the net division after a blistering 65. Kellie did all the damage on the front 9 following 7 net birdies and a 2 net pars for a 29 out total. If it wasn’t for an unfortunate double bogey on the last she would have also found herself in the championship play-off. Her net score did, however, turn out to be 8 shots clear of runner-up Hyeonji Kang who carded 73, 1 shot ahead of third place Snigdha Goswami.

Congratulations to the winner of the 2018 Emirates Amateur Open, Rayhan Thomas, who won by virtue of a dramatic sudden-death playoff after Round 2 on the Majlis Course.

Heading into the final round on the Majlis Course, 6 shots behind overnight leader Stephen Loftus, Rayhan produced a sublime 69 to post a clubhouse score of +1 on what was tricky scoring conditions on the Majlis Course. Stephen Loftus and Max Burrows, having both played very well in Round 1 on The Faldo Course, were able to match Rayhan’s score and force a playoff. After pars all round on the first playoff hole, the 17th, it was Rayhan who emerged victorious with a birdie on the second playoff hole, the 18th on The Majlis, edging out Stephen Loftus and Max Burrows. Finishing in fourth place was Mikhail Pinto with scores of 71 & 77, +4.
In the net section, it was Graeme Braybrooke winning first place with net scores of 74 & 73 = 147 total, to win by a shot. Second place was settled by a better second round score, where Adam Zahri beat Nick Pomeroy to second with his final day net 69, both shooting 148 total net.
Daily prizes went to Ahmad Skaik for best gross on Day 1, shooting 73 on the Faldo with a better back 9 score. Best gross on day 2 was claimed by Maximilian Grieb with a fantastic one under par 71 on the Majlis. Day 1 best net went to Ramsey Yassin, with 73 strokes and a better back 9 score, whilst Day 2 best net was claimed by Chris Alderman, also with 73 strokes and a victory on a back 9 scorecard-playoff!

(Dubai, UAE) – Meydan Golf welcomed some of the region’s top Lady Golfers to compete for the AGMC Ladies Open, Event Four on the Emirates Golf Federation Order of Merit schedule. With nine of the Top Ten Ladies in the field, it was evident that the conclusion was going to be very close.
Deborah Chang began her round with an impressive fifteen pars in a row. She finally made a birdie on the Par 4 16th, taking her to one under par. Pars on the 17th and 18th resulted in a round of 71, meaning that she finished one stroke ahead of Natalii Gupta and Sakura Kawakami, with Gupta taking the Runner-Up Prize following a fantastic back nine of 34, two under par.
In the Net Division, Kawakami was victorious with a Net 69. The Runner-Up Prize went to UAE National Team Member Reema Al Heloo, who closed with a Net 70.
Nearest the Pin Prize was won by Xavier Arries, with Sara Engsig winning the Longest Drive. The victory for Chang means that she climbs to the top of the Order of Merit with seven events to go.

(Sharjah, UAE) – Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club played host to the 10th Men’s Open Golf Championship on the weekend of the 8th & 9th December. As ever the event was fantastically supported by some of the best golfers from across the UAE, with a mixture of young guns bidding to put their mark on the event & the seasoned master craftsmen of the game.
Winners of the 2017 Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club Men’s Open
The weekend was one of the records being matched & broken. Day one saw youngster Toby Bishop representing Jumeirah Golf Estates come hot out of the blocks & posted a most impressive score of 68, matching the standing course record. Toby’s round consisted of six birdies & saw him as clubhouse leader with a matched course record for all of 20 minutes. Hot on Toby’s trail & keen to take the title once again was Micheal Harradine, as he controlled his ball around the Championship course without a single dropped shot on the scorecard & five Birdies to post an incredible 67. Bettering his & Toby’s existing course record by a single shot. Round 1 would also see the most about of player finish under par after Day 1, with four players including Micheal, Toby, John Mills & Simon Dunn all record rounds under par, highlighting once again the strength of the 2017 field.
Going into Day 2 there was a feeling of familiarity as Micheal lead & headed out in the final group of the day. Toby was a single shot back, with John & Simon sat a two-under & two shots behind the leader. Following a Birdie on the second hole for Micheal & a few dropped shots from Toby over the first few holes, Micheal seventh title was becoming ever more a reality, hole by hole. Micheal posted a one-under-par score for his front nine on day two as other contenders battling for the 2017 title fell by the wayside. After 34 holes of bogey-free golf, Micheal made an uncharacteristic mistake on his penultimate hole as he put his tee shot in the water, he would get up & down to drop just the single shot. Recording a par on his 36th hole Micheal posted a 71 for day two, giving him a tournament total of six under par, 138. A total which would better his previous best tournament score of 139 which he set in 2013.
Doing all they could to stay in touch with Michael was Stephen Loftus from Yas Links Golf Club & Simon Dunn from Al Hamra Golf Club as they both recorded Tournament totals of 145, one over par. Stephen would take second place in the tournament due to a better second-day score as he posted 73, one over par on day two following his level par on day one. Simon picked up the third place trophy whilst youngster Toby Bishop picked up the trophy for Day one’s best score following a great weekend of golf & experience for the young man, a name which will no doubt be at the top of many leaderboards in the region over the coming years. The Day two best score went to Craig Vance representing Tower Links as he posted 72, level par.
The Net prizes of the event were also dominated by the lower handicap contingency. Picking up the best day one score was Senior Tour, Sharjah Senior Golf Master Competitor John Mills as he recorded a Net score of 71 (gross 70). The day two best score when to Sharjah Golf & Shooting club member George Liu as he showed his experience around the course to post a level par 72. Taking the main Net prizes for the day were Chris Alderman (SGSC) on a net total of 149 & picking up third place, in second place was Namir Al Naimi (SGSC) on a net score of 147. At the top of the Net Leaderboard was a young up & coming start at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club William Ang, after some great preparation work William put together two very consistent rounds & posted a two-round net total of 145, one over par.

(Al Ain, UAE) – 19 players contested the 2017 AESGC Ladies Open as players were greeted to hot early morning temperatures which made scoring slightly more difficult. Denmark’s Sara Engsig
who spent 2 days practicing the course earlier in the week made that practice worth the
effort as she claimed the Overall Gross prize with a superb 1 under par 69 Gross despite
making bogey on the Par 5 18th.
Ladies Open Winners
That bogey made little difference as she claimed a 2 shot victory over Natalii Gupta who returned a 1 over par 71 Gross.
The final prize in the Gross division went to Deborah Chang who recorded a 73 Gross to claim 3rd spot.
In the Net Division, Jamie Roslyn Camero blew away her rivals with an excellent Net 64 to
take 1 st place. Jamie Roslyn’s margin of victory was 5 shots from Tower Links golfer Jayoung
Lee who posted a 69 Net for 2nd place. 3rd place was very tightly fought out between two
AESGC members of Lady Captain Hye Sook Jee and Sakura Kawakami who both returned
scores of 70 Net. Sakura managed to pip Hye Sook courtesy of a final 3 hole countback.
In the Special events Sakura Kawakami won both prizes on offer, she managed to hit it closest to the Pin on Holes 3 and 15.

(Dubai, UAE) – Congratulations to Arjun Gupta (Emirates Golf Club) who scored a fantastic gross 70 on the Faldo Course, to claim this year’s Emirates Junior Open. Arjun was on top form during the tournament reaching 5 under par through 10 holes before eventually shooting a 2 under par 70 to beat Niklas Korjonen (The Els Club), who shot a level par gross 72, with Vijay Haridas (Jumeriah Golf Estates) one shot further back on 73 gross. Our 2017 Girls Champion was Hyeonji Kang (Emirates Golf Club) shooting a 2 over par 74 to win by an impressive 3 shots.
Emirates Junior Open 2017 Winners
In the Boys “A” division it was Liam Mullen (Jumeriah Golf Estates) who emerged victorious shooting a net 3 under, 69 on a tough Faldo Course. The Boys “B” division saw Mousa Shannah (Emirates Golf Federation) run away from the field with an unbeatable 9 under, 63 net.
In the Girls division (HCP 0 – 36), winning with a net 68 was Snigdha Goswami (The Els Club), followed by Hannah Alan (Emirates Golf Club) who finished with a net 73.

Dubai, UAE – The dates for the 18th Dubai Golf Trophy has been confirmed for the 12thand 13th of May 2018. The annual match is played in a Ryder Cup style format between the top 16 amateur and professional golfers in the UAE. Day one will be played at the iconic Emirates Majlis course in a pairs format with Foresomes in the morning and Better Ball in the afternoon. The final round will be played at the stunning Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and is Singles format.
The Amateur Team are the defending champions after beating the Professional Team in 2017, their second victory in three years after winning in 2015. The UAE PGA Professionals will certainly be focusing on winning the trophy back come May in what is the flagship event for local golf in the UAE.
This year the qualification criteria has changed to ensure that each team is represented by the best possible players. The Amateur Team will be made of 12 qualifiers from the Emirates Golf Federation Men’s order-of-merit which is made up of the 36 hole Men’s Open competitions played at the various clubs in the UAE. The Amateur players’ top six performances in these events will count towards their Dubai Golf Trophy qualification with a further four players being selected by ‘Captain’s Picks’ by the 2018 team Captain Max Burrow from Dubai Creek. Any players receiving a ‘Captain’s Pick’ must have played in a minimum of two order-of-merit events.
There is no change to the Professional Team qualification criteria which will be the top 12 players from the UAE PGA order-of-merit plus the four ‘Captain’s Picks’ which will be made by the 2018 Professional Team Captain Ryan Smith from the Address Montgomerie Dubai.
The UAE PGA order-of-merit is already underway with the next event being the Dubai Creek UAE PGA Pro-Am on Monday 16th October. The first event of the EGF Men’s Amateur order-of-merit will be contested this weekend (13th and 14th October) at The Address Montgomerie Dubai.
Dubai Golf, Chief Executive Officer Christopher May commented; “We have been working hard to make this prestigious event even better so that the best players in the UAE can come together for two days of top level competitive golf over the Majlis and Creek courses. We are excited about the new amateur qualification criteria which we hope will encourage greater participation in the Emirates Golf Federation Men’s order-of-merit events played throughout the season. The 2018 edition of the match will be the best yet and we are very much looking forward to it.”
(Dubai, UAE) – Congratulations to the top Amateurs of the UAE who successfully defended the Dubai Golf Trophy, they defeated the best PGA Professionals in the region in a Ryder Cup-style showdown. The match took place over two days at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, followed by the final round on the Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club. This year was the 18th staging of this popular match with the Amateurs coming out on top by 17-15 points.
Both teams took to the fairways in their team Footjoy colors courtesy of shirt sponsors Pro Sports International. On day one, the Amateur team, captained by Bayhaan Lakdawala claimed the morning foursomes by 4.5 points to 3. 5. The teams were equally matched in the afternoon four balls, both claiming 4 points, giving Bayhaan and his team a 1 point advantage overnight.
The professionals captained by David Gray, would have been hoping for a fast start in the final day singles. Again both teams were equally matched early on. After the opening 7 games, 4 points went in the favor of professionals Callum Nicoll, Alex Nicholson, Shane Peakcock and Mike Bolt to tie the match. However, in the middle matches, strong performances and convincing victories for amateurs Mike Mezei, Aryan Chordia, Max Burrow and Arjun Gupta put the Amateurs back safely in pole position. A win on the 18th green for Chris Rahm in one of the latter matches confirmed their victory.
Notable mentions go to Mike Mezei and Chris Rahm, who earned maximum points for their side. Also to professionals Dong Lee, Shane Peacock and Alex Nicholson, who went undefeated and gained 3 from 3 points.
The event originally started as a social season-ending tournament in 2000 at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. Since then the event has grown in popularity and prestige and is now one of the highlights of the local golfing calendar for Professionals and Amateurs alike. Once again the Dubai Golf Trophy was played in great spirit over the two days; our thanks go to captains David Gray and Bayhaan Lakdawala, and their respective teams for taking part and competing so honorably in what is a fantastic local golfing spectacle. This year’s result brings the tally to 14 wins for the Professionals against four for the Amateurs.
