Rayan Ahmed Makes the Cut at the 2024 AAC
(Shizuoka, Japan) – Following a challenging two and half days and over six hours of delays due to rain and fog, United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Team player Rayan Ahmed made the cut at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) at the Taiheiyo Club Gotemba in Japan.
Rayan is the third UAE player to make the cut at the AAC following Ahmed Al Musharrekh and Ahmad Skaik. This is coming off the AAC announcing earlier in the week that the UAE will be hosting the 16th edition of the ACC in 2025 at Emirates Golf Club – Majilis Course.
The AAC is known as the top amateur championship in the region, 120 players from the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation took to the course starting on Thursday. Following today’s cut 63 players moved on to play the rest of the championship. The winner of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship will receive invites to play in both the 2025 Masters Tournament, The Open, and the British Amateur.
Rayan shot rounds of 74-72 for a two-round total of 146, 6-over-par, and tees it up for round three at 3:17 pm local time. Leading the championship is Japan’s Rintarop Nakano. Nakano is currently sitting at 7-under-par with seven players with only 3 shots or less right behind him. With rain in the forecast the rest of today and into tomorrow moring the championship is up for grabs.
After Rayan’s second round and making the cut he received a special congratulations from Masters Chairman Fred Ridley and Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Vice Chairman General Abdullah Alhashmi.
“We are proud of Rayan’s performance, the conditions are not easy. Rayan has a long few days and an even longer few weeks after winning the Silver Medal at the Pan Arab Youth Championships in Tunisia. In the next 36 hours, he will have to play another two rounds, and that will test him even more. No matter what happens we are proud of him, said EGF Vice Chairman, General Abdullah Alhashmi.
