UAE Senior National Team Travels to Malaysia for the Asia–Pacific Senior Amateur Championship

(Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) – On November 21-24, 2022, the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) is hosting the Asia–Pacific Senior Amateur Championship at the Kota Permai Golf & Country Club, Malaysia. Representing the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Vice-Chairman General Abdullah Alhashmi, Mohammed Darwish, Saeed AlMalik, Omar Thabet, and Mohammed Al Musharrekh.

Representing the UAE team are General Abdullah Alhashmi, Mohammed Darwish, Saeed AlMalik, and Omar Thabet, while Mohamed Al Musharrekh is representing the country in the individual competition.

The APGC Senior Amateur Championship is the Asia-Pacific’s team and individual championship for senior male and female golfers. The winner receives an exemption into The R&A Senior Amateur Championship. Eligible players are male amateurs who have reached their 55th birthday by November 1 in the year of the tournament and whose handicap does not exceed the handicap limit for their age category at the time of entry, or who are exempt players or women amateurs who have reached their 50th birthday. There will also be team elements to both the men’s and women’s championships, where each country may nominate one men’s team and one women’s team. Men’s teams will comprise a maximum of four players per team and women’s teams comprise of a maximum three players, all of whom must be citizens or nationals of the country they represent. The winning teams will be determined by the lowest aggregate of the three best gross scores for men and two best scores for women from each round.

A total of 92 players from 16 countries registered to play in the Championship. Malaysian Golf Association fielded a men’s and women’s team in this Championship. This year, a lady division was included. The Championship is organized by MGA under the purview of the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC).

Kota Permai Golf & Country Club is situated in Kota Kemuning, an up-market suburb of Shah Alam ideally located along the Kesas highway linking easily the city of Kuala Lumpur. Kota Permai Golf & Country Club is hosting this year’s Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Senior Amateur Championships, which include a women’s competition for the first time. Hosted by the Malaysian Golf Association, the event takes place on November 21-24 at the award-winning venue, which is a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

“It is important for us to represent our country and show the world that we have representation at all levels and ages, said Vice Chairman of the EGF, General Abdullah Alhashmi.

“Exactly one week after the UAE’s youngest team represented the country at the Nomura Cup in the Philippines, the senior team is making its first appearance at an APGC championship.  We look forward to continuing to support and participate in many more events showing our commitment to the development of the sport within our country”, General Alhashmi added.
