(Abu Dhabi, UAE) – On October 26th, 2019, the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) hosted the first United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Monthly Medal powered by Mashreq Bank of the 2019 – 2020 golf season at Yas Links Abu Dhabi. Over 75 UAE national golfers gathered to compete across five different divisions. Sultan Al Jassmey kicked off the season with an impressive overall victory.
Being the first UAE National Monthly Medal powered by Mashreq Bank of the new season. The event was honored to have EGF Chairman, His Excellency Shaikh Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi and Mr. Ibrahim Al Mheiri, CEO of Mashreq Al Islami & Head of UAE National Segment at Mashreq Bank in attendance to hand out the awards.
Winning his first UAE National Monthly Medal and a great way to start the UAE golf season was Junior National Team Member Sultan Al Jassmey. Sultan had a fantastic round of golf collecting a total of 44 Stableford Points, four points in front of the Runner-Up.
Finishing as the Runner-Up for the event after a countback was Akram Skaik with 40 points and coming in Third Place after the countback with 40 Stableford Points was Sultan Al Jassmy
For the Best Gross prize both National Team Members, Ahmad Skaik and Saif Thabet fired an impressive 69, 3-under-par. Just edging Saif, Ahmad won on a back nine countback.
In the Senior Division, for those who are 50 years of age or older, EGF Vice-Chairman Adel Zarouni was the clear winner with 37 points.
Awards were also given based on handicap with an A-Division (0-14 handicap) and B-Division (14-24 handicap) winners. Winning the A-Division Prize was Rashid Al Emiadi with 38 Stableford Points. Abdulla Al Hashmi won the Division-B prize with 37 Stableford Points.
In the Junior Division, the EGF had 8 juniors compete for the top three spots. Coming in First Place was Sultan Al Owais with 44 points. Finishing in Second Place was Mohamed Skaik and rounding off the top-three was Rashid Al Hefeiti.
During the event, the EGF hosted 17 members of the National Foundation Squad on the Yas Links Academy Par 3 Course. The winner of the “Par 3 Competition” was Rawdha Al Hefeiti.
The Runner-up for the Par 3 Competition was Mohamed Thabet and Fatima Kalbat finished in Third Place.
The event also had two “On Course Challenges” up for grabs. Taking home the Longest Drive Award was Hisham Sharif. Winning the Nearest to the Pin Award was Ahmad Skaik.
To start the award ceremony the EGF took the time to acknowledge the past year’s accomplishments for the UAE Nationals Teams. Players from the Men’s Team, Ladies Team, and 13 & Under Team were all gifted awards for their achievements. The Men’s Team won the Gold Medal at the 2018 GCC Golf Championship. The Ladies Team won the Silver Medal at the 2019 Pan Arab Golf Championship and at the same event, the 13 & Under Team won the Bronze Medal.
