JESS Comes Out on Top of the 3rd Round at the Inter-Schools Golf League
(Dubai, UAE) – On Monday, 6th February 2017, the Inter-Schools Golf League hosted 3rd Rounds of the 2016/2017 season. This highly anticipated event in the school golfing calendar is generously sponsored by Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) and hosted by The Track, Meydan. 45 students from 8 Dubai schools plus an EGF team, consisting of promising young national players, competed over 9 holes in this, the third of 4 rounds.
Now in its 8th year, the Inter-Schools Golf League allows students between the ages of 11-18 the opportunity to play competitive golf in a friendly atmosphere, learning sportsmanship together with the fundamentals of the golf game.
Each school can enter 6 players, with the 4 best Stableford scores to count towards the team score. On a very cool evening at Meydan, scoring was close this round with JESS Ranches coming out on top with 68 points, only one point ahead of league leaders Dubai English Speaking College (DESC) in 2nd place on 67 points, with Wellington International School (WIS) taking 3rd place on 64 points.
Besides the Team Stableford Leaderboard, all students were playing in two other categories, the Best Individual Gross Score and the Best Individual Stableford Score. A superb round of 35 (-1) saw John Burki of Bradenton Preparatory Academy (BPA) take the Best Gross Score of the night, 2 shots ahead of Toby Bishop (DESC) on 37, with Ben Zietara of Greenfields Community School (GCS) just one shot behind on 38.
John Burki (BPA), also won Best Individual Stableford Score with a superb score of 22pts ahead of a three-way tie for second place with Toby Bishop (DESC), Valdemar Kofod Olsen (WIS) and Sam Burtonwood (JESS) all finishing on 19pts.
After three rounds, DESC maintains their lead at the top of the table with a total of 203pts, followed by JESS on 197pts and JC on 182pts. With all to play for, the final round is scheduled for Monday 6th March and will be an 18 hole event at Arabian Ranches.
