ZUBAIR DEFENDS TITLE IN STYLE at 8th SGSC JUNIOR OPEN

(Sharjah, UAE) – Zubair Firdaus of JGE & SGSC showed his golfing prouesse, defending his Junior Open Championship title by defeating the best juniors in the UAE for the 8th SGSC Junior Open supported by Ajman Academy, Golf World and Spectrum Title. After a disappointing Men’s Open Championship during the previous weekend Zubair came back with the bit between his teeth and a point to prove. And prove he did, in the front nine Zubair recorded 2 Birdies and 7 Pars giving him a 2 under par score. In the back nine Zubair wasn’t about to play curiously, he was obviously in the mood to go low and bettered his front nine score by one, giving a total of 67, five under Par. The 67 was an event low and has set the bar for future year’s competitors.

Kabir Nanda of Dubai Creek and Yacht Club was one of the early starters and set the bar for the field posting an impressive score 72 levels par. A score on any other day would have looked very good and given him a great chance of taking home the title, not with Zubair in the field. Kabir didn’t go home empty handed, he took the runner up prize for his days efforts.

The net division was won by a fantastic effort by Jamie Camero, a rising star of the Junior Golf Development program here at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club. Her front nine was slow to start but she remained patience and showed great maturity in the back nine and post an overall score of Net 66. Taking Runner up in the Net division was Mattie Sparacino from Jumeirah Golf Estate on a score of 69.

After a second place finish in last year’s Girls gross division Kate Bibby of The Els Club went one better for the 2016 championship, narrowly beating Hyeonji Kang from Al Badia Golf Club by one shot. Kate shot 77, five over Par to take this year’s title of Girls Gross Champions. The Net Division for the Girls was won on a score of 69 by Deborah Chang of Emirates Golf Club.
