Inter-Schools League Back in Action at The Track, Meydan
(Dubai, UAE) – Monday 7th November 2016 saw the start of the 2016/2017 season of the Inter-Schools Golf League. This highly anticipated event in the school golfing calendar is generously sponsored by Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) and hosted by The Track, Meydan. 44 students from 7 Dubai schools plus an EGF team, consisting of promising young national players, competed over 9 holes in this, the first of 4 rounds.
Now in it’s 8th year, the Inter-Schools Golf League (formally know as the Dubai Schools League) allows students between the ages of 11-18 the opportunity to play competitive golf in a friendly atmosphere, learning sportsmanship together with the fundamentals of the golf game.
Each school can enter 6 players, with the 4 best Stableford scores to count towards the team score. Round 1 was all very close points-wise with Dubai English Speaking College (DESC) and Greenfields Community School (GCS) tied in first place on 62 points, with Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) taking 3rd place on 60 points.
Besides the Team Stableford Leaderboard, all students were playing in two other categories, the Best Individual Gross Score and the Best Individual Stableford Score. Again these categories were very close. Not even a countback could separate the Best Gross Score of the night with Joshua Hill (DESC) and Zubair Firdaus (GCS) both finishing on 37, whilst Kevin McCarrick (JESS) was just one shot behind on 38.
Kevin McCarrick (JESS), however, did go on to win Best Individual Stableford Score with 19pts but only after a countback from Stefan Pretorius (GCS) who also shot 19pts. A magnificent round of 18pts saw EGF player Mohammed Abdulla Saeed take 3rd place.
All in all, this season promises to be a very close and exciting competition. Round 2 is scheduled for Monday 5th December at The Track, Meydan.
